Pug "Bulldog" McDaniel (Owner)
When Florida Wrestling League owner and play by play announcer Guy Gordon described veteran mid-carder Pug McDaniel’s in-ring style as like that of a Bulldog, he had no idea what that one word would spawn. “He may not out-wrestle you, but he’ll out-fight you from bell to bell. The man sinks his teeth in and refuses to let go.” From these words, McDaniel was catapulted into the main event. Fans latched on to this persona and suddenly signs with pictures of bulldogs began appearing in every high school gym and bingo hall that FWL went to in Florida. For the last few years of his twenty-year career, the Bulldog was a superstar. And on Christmas day 1978, he became the Florida Wrestling League’s undisputed world champion. He had lost the title before the first day of 1979, but he never forgot the man who allowed him to step into that spotlight.
Four years later, both McDaniel and Gordon were considering retiring. With no children to pass his life’s work on to, Gordon asked his most loyal friend and ally, Pug, to take the reins of FWL. It only took three years under Pug’s direction for Vince McMahon to strip away the company’s top talent. But Pug remains undeterred to see his friend’s life’s work thrive, no matter the cost.
A hard jawed man nearing 50, with a head of hair as white as linen, Pug McDaniel is not a man to be trifled with in a fight. In a pair of wrestling tights, he will fight you as hard as any one man can. But get him in a suit and tie in that same wrestling ring, and he is just not the same man. Still growing used to his role as the head of FWL, there is only one part of the job he truly enjoys: The buck stops with him and only him.
Brianna Kincaid (FOX Network Exec)
Coming from a well to-do family on the East Coast and using her degree from Bryn Mawr like a backstage pass to the world, Brianna Kincaid is less a woman and more a force to be reckoned with. A shade over five and a half feet tall, with vibrant red hair, Brianna is pure kinetic energy, with her body trying to keep up with her mind constantly swirling with new ideas.
After her graduation from college, Brianna took an entry-level job at 20th Century Fox in Los Angeles, quickly rising through the ranks developing scripts and ideas for movies. When the company announced it was spinning off a new network, Brianna was the first to request a position with the new enterprise, being named their Executive Vice President of Development.
Not even thirty, Brianna has come to FWL with an eye on the future of both professional wrestling and television in general. Wherever that future lies, she has every intention of being there at the front lines.
Chet Barnes (Play By Play)
With wavy blonde hair and a wry smile, Chet Barnes would appear to be your average middle aged surfer dude. But the truth is Chet Barnes grew up watching wrestling the same way that English professors grow up reading Dostoyevsky. He is a man who recognizes and appreciates the art and beauty of wrestling. Sitting behind the announce table for almost 15 years, he still can’t believe he has the best seat in the house every single week.
Leon Gilbert (Color Commentator)
Chubby at best, but round by any definition, Leon Cohen has left his best years behind him, and he is barely 25. With a long dark ponytail, Leon is the guy who can find something to hate in anything, and has no problem telling everyone exactly how wrong they are to like it.
Jerry “Jer Bear” Stahl (Backstage Interviewer)
Once a mountain of a man who wrestled under the name “Bear Stahl”, Jerry became something of a comic figure backstage after he retired. While his stature shrunk, his belly grew, and he remained on with FWL after his retirement to interview his peers backstage. His mind isn’t as sharp as it was in his youth, but the 70 year old knows his wrestling backwards and forwards, and he can tell the difference between real bravado and fake.
